So for a recent Film I was working on, some of the costumes needed to be "Broken Down". By this I mean made to look worn/lived in, in this case to quite an extreme length.

The character had been through some form of mental breakdown and was living in a flat on her own.. where she had lost of sense of reality and self control.

Not washing, changing clothes, cleaning herself and basically living in her own excrement.

So to create this look I used a mixed medium of techniques.

There are some great products out there that you can buy...

like Dirty Down spray, which comes in a variety of colours and tones. Also waxes and rubs which are good for creating natural looking stains like sweat and dirt.

I peronsally like to use a mix of these products which more house hold items.

for example;

Ketch up-

Vasaline-

worcestershire sauce-

coffee- to rub on and to dtte entire garments.

spray paints are good when used carefully.

fabric dyes are great for making new items look old- running several items through a machine wash with a grey dye works wonders.

I just wanted to Share these tricks of the trade encase you ever need to "Break Down" a costume! Good Luck!

On "Meet The Parents" I got to work with and style the lovely Alex Zane! We had some great tee's featured in the show.. a couple from Johnny Cupcakes.. one of which was a really cute black fitted tee with this ginormous boy in dungarees on the front eating a cupcake.. really striking design.. looked pretty good with Alex's trademark fitted suit. Go check out their online store and they have a cute store on Carnaby Street in town. Worth a visit just to take a look!

We also had a Tee shirt from "The House Of Gods" which was probably my favourite as it had a stylised retro design on the front of a 80's pin ball machine in bold reds and greys.. what i loved the most about this one was that the motif ran from neck to navel. I do blieve they have a concession in Topsh

So One of the jobs I have been working on at the moment is a series for Cbeebies called "Mr Blooms Nursery". Which is a puppet based show with 4 main characters - A fennel called Joan, A Runner Bean called Collin, a Butternut Squash called Raymond and a Cabbage called Margret.... and YES they all happen to be vegtable. plus theres an array of other green house friends.. all run by Mr Bloom, the friendly caring gardener.

my role within the show was Costumes and Puppets. - bare in mind this was the first time in my career i have ever had to dress vegtables. I've worked with puppets before.. but the furry kind..

We were filming up in the new Media city centre that was based in Manchester. Was such a contrast to work on that as well as be out buying rubber and gimp masks for the other show I was working on (Meet The Parents - for E4)

Below you can see one of the lovely new characters we created.. "Debbie The Pineapple"..

The show goes out around the world toward the end of the year/early Jan..

ya kids will love it..

So last week I was prepping for a couple of shows one being a studio shoot for the last two episodes of "Meet The Parents". With the Lovely Alex Zane on E4.

Its a hidden camera show where an unexpecting girlfriend/boyfriend are set up by their partner to "Meet the Family".... But instead of meeting their real Ma, Pa and siblings its a bunch of actors playing some extreme characters. if they last 3 hours in the house the win a holiday...

One of the costume requests for the studio show was a polar bear... who was going to run through the audience and sniff the boy friends bum... yes you did read that right... an arse sniffing polar bear...

now I had to share this costume as i loved it so much..

your see my assistant karl wearing the costume in the picture below.. dont you just want to cuddle him!!?

well i think hes the sweetest looking arse sniffing polar bear i ever did see...
